A UAE company has two federal taxes to deal with:

  • VAT at 5 percent applies once taxable supplies pass AED 375,000.
  • Corporate Tax at 9 percent applies to taxable income above AED 375,000, with registration required for every licensed company including free zone firms.

Both are filed through the Federal Tax Authority's EmaraTax portal, and late filing carries fixed penalties set by the Federal Tax Authority (revised in April 2026; see tax.gov.ae).

What a proper service includes

Accounting is three jobs under one word: bookkeeping, tax-agent work and audit, each with its own licence. Match the firm to the job. Ask who the registered tax agent is, which software holds your books and who tracks the filing calendar.

What it costs

Small companies typically pay:

  • Bookkeeping: AED 500 to 2,000 a month
  • Quarterly VAT return: AED 300 to 1,000 each

These are typical Dubai prices; in the other emirates prices are often similar or somewhat lower.

Before you pay

Compare firms on scope, named people and deadline control, not on the headline monthly price alone. Keep receipts in one folder from day one, because tidy records are the cheapest way to lower the fee.

Check the badge first, then read the reviews and the response rate. Ask for a written quote that names the company on the licence, and pay only to an account in that company's name. See typical prices in our price guide.

Frequently asked questions

What should an accounting firm be registered with?

A valid trade licence (DET in Dubai, ADDED in Abu Dhabi, SEDD in Sharjah) or free zone licence for accounting and bookkeeping, and for VAT and Corporate Tax work an FTA-registered tax agent you can name. Audits must be signed by an auditor licensed by the Ministry of Economy, so ask for the auditor's licence separately.

How much does bookkeeping and VAT filing cost in the UAE?

Small companies typically pay AED 500 to 2,000 a month for bookkeeping, AED 300 to 1,000 per quarterly VAT return and AED 2,000 to 6,000 for annual financial statements. Messy records are priced as catch-up work, so tidy receipts lower the fee. These are typical Dubai prices; in the other emirates prices are often similar or somewhat lower.

What are the penalties for late VAT filing?

The Federal Tax Authority sets fixed penalties for late VAT returns and late registration, plus penalties on unpaid tax. The penalty table was revised in April 2026, so check current amounts at tax.gov.ae. Ask the firm how it tracks your deadlines.

Do I need an audit?

Only if your licence or lender requires it. Some free zones, including DMCC and JAFZA in Dubai, ask for audited accounts every year, and a small company audit typically costs AED 3,000 to 10,000. Read your free zone's rules, or ask a licensed auditor.
