A handyman covers the small jobs that pile up in a UAE home: mounting a TV, assembling a wardrobe, hanging shelves, changing a lock, resealing a bath. It is a trade for like-for-like fixes.

How to use one well

The sensible way is to collect the small jobs on a list, book a single visit and agree one price, instead of paying a separate minimum charge for each task.

What it costs in 2026

A company handyman typically charges AED 60 to 120 an hour, usually with a one-hour minimum, so bundling jobs into one visit saves money. Fixed prices are common:

  • Mount a TV: AED 100 to 250
  • Assemble a flat-pack item: AED 80 to 300
  • Replace a door lock: AED 150 to 400

These are typical Dubai prices; in the other emirates prices are often similar or somewhat lower.

Before you pay

Check your tenancy contract and building rules before you drill. Look for a company with a building maintenance activity on its licence rather than a freelancer, so there is someone to hold to a warranty. Ask for at least 30 days on the work, and check pipes and cables behind the wall before any drilling.

Check the badge first, then read the reviews and the response rate. Ask for a written quote that names the company on the licence, and pay only to an account in that company's name. See typical prices in our price guide.

Frequently asked questions

What should a handyman company be licensed for?

A trade licence (DET in Dubai, ADDED in Abu Dhabi, SEDD in Sharjah) with a building maintenance or general maintenance activity, and technicians employed by the company. Whoever does the work must hold a valid licence or permit for the activity, and without one you have no counterpart to hold to a warranty. Ask for the licence number and check it on the register.

What does a handyman cost in the UAE?

Typically AED 60 to 120 an hour with a one-hour minimum in 2026. Fixed prices run AED 100 to 250 for a TV mount, AED 60 to 150 per window for curtain rails and AED 150 to 350 for resealing a bath. Brackets and anchors are usually extra. These are typical Dubai prices; in the other emirates prices are often similar or somewhat lower.

Which jobs should not go to a handyman?

Rewiring or moving a point, adding a circuit, relocating pipework, anything on a gas line and structural changes. These need an electrician approved by the utility (DEWA in Dubai), a licensed plumber or a gas contractor, and often a no-objection certificate from the building. A handyman who offers to do them is outside his trade.

Do I need permission to drill into walls?

Check your tenancy contract. Many allow small holes for shelves and TVs but not structural work, and some towers ask for permission and a refundable deposit for larger drilling. Photograph the wall first, and check for pipes and cables before drilling.
